The baby of a 19-year-old pregnant Parasha M. Beard, who was shot and killed in a southside Chicago neighborhood has miraculously survived.

LifeNews.com reports that she was shot and killed outside her mother’s home in South Chicago on Sunday evening.

Beard was reportedly sitting in a car with a friend when the incident occurred. Fox News reports: “Parasha Beard was sitting in a car with a friend of hers in South Chicago Sunday when somebody approached and shot both of them. Beard’s family said the gunman lived down the street and apparently got into some kind of argument with the woman and her friend beforehand.”

Beard was rushed to Northwestern Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The man who was with her was also shot and is reportedly in critical condition. Her baby, which was not due till December, however, survived.

“Relatives said they have named the baby ‘Miracle,’” according to the Chicago Tribune.

“Thank God that her baby that she was pregnant with is surviving right now,” said Beard’s mother, Crystal Jones. “Thank you God, have mercy on me.”

“Miracle, she’s a miracle baby,” added Beard’s grandmother, Sylvia Jones-King. “[S]he’s doing good, she’s breathing on her own.”

The diseased was also the mother of a four-year-old daughter.
