  1. I searched for a list of books in the Bible from shortest to longest. I find the list here only lists 24 books. Why aren’t the others listed?

    • Hello Steven, the Books In The Bible From Shortest To Longest is 66 in number not 24, scroll down more and you’ll find the others. Thank you.

  2. This is a list of all 66 book in order from shortest to longest.
Thank you to whomever put this here. Thank you profusely.

    • You’re right; Proverbs is much longer (should be #53), and there are several other errors in this list. Was it compiled by just counting the number of biblical chapters? Or the number of verses? It would be more accurate to count the number of words (not just in English translation, but in the Hebrew and Greek original texts).

      Two other big errors:
2 Thess is much shorter than listed here (should be #9, not #29 – only 3 chapters, 89 verses)
Ephesians is also much shorter (should be #30, not #38 – only 6 chapters, 155 verses)

      Some more subtle errors:
Luke has only 24 chapters, but is longer than both Matthew and Acts, with 28 chapters each. Luke has 1151 verses (19842 Greek words), in contrast to Acts (only 1007 verses, but 18451 words) and Matthew (1071 verses, but only 18345 words).

1 Timothy has 6 chapters (with 113 verses), and so might seem longer than books with only 4 or 5 chapters (and 104-108 verses); but 1 Timothy has only 1591 words in the original Greek NT text, and so is shorter than James (1742 words in Greek), and 1 Peter (1684 words), and even Philippians (1629 words), and is barely longer than Colossians (1582 words). So 1 Timothy should be around #17.

So aside from correcting the big/obvious errors, it would be good if the author explained how this list was compiled, and based on which translation of the Bible.

  3. This is inaccurate I don’t think there is any way you can say Proverbs is a shorter book than the likes of James, 1 Peter, 1 John, Ruth, Song of Solomon, and Joel when that single book alone has more chapters, pages, verses, and words than those 6 latter books combined. There are many other errors as well. So I created a list myself that is, at the very least, really close to accurate. It is separated by new and old testament, I’ll do a list of them combined soon. It goes from shortest to longest by order of which book has the fewer amount of chapters, if they have the same amount, then I go by how many pages that book takes up, if those are tied, then I do how many verses there are total in that entire book. So with out further ado, here you all are.
