📖 Reflection
Happy New Year to you and your family!
In a world full of opinions, advice, resolutions, and self-help philosophies, many people unconsciously treat the Gospel as one of those things. It is often confused and reduced to moral guidance—rules to follow, behaviors to improve, or principles to live by—instead of the life to live.
But the Gospel is not advice. It is news. And not just any news—it is God’s news. It did not originate from culture, philosophy, or human reasoning. The Gospel begins with God Himself.
The term gospel simply means “good news.” The word comes from the Greek euangelion. Good news isn’t something we debate or stumble upon—it’s declared to us. Angels proclaimed the birth of Christ with messages of “great joy” and “good news for all people,” announcing Jesus as the Savior, Messiah, and Lord—culminating in a heavenly host declaring, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men” (Luke 2:10–14).
The Apostle Paul tells the Corinthians that he declared the Gospel to them. This means the Gospel was not something he invented or improved upon; it was something God had already accomplished and revealed.
The Gospel is the announcement that God has acted decisively in Jesus Christ for the salvation of humanity. Paul describes it as something we receive, stand upon, and are saved by. This reveals a crucial truth: the Gospel is not just the doorway into faith—it is the very foundation we stand on for life. We don’t move on from the Gospel; we go deeper into it.
When the Gospel is reduced to religious effort or moral performance, it loses its power. But when it is received as God’s own declaration, it becomes the source of faith, assurance, and transformation.
The Gospel’s core is not a concept, but a Person: Jesus Christ. Christianity is fundamentally about what God has accomplished through His Son—not a system of ethics, rituals, or self-betterment.
True belief in the Gospel is defined by trust in Christ and reliance on His completed work, not merely by agreeing with facts. This foundational trust marks the beginning of authentic Christian life and sustains its entire progression.
⏸️ Pause and Reflect
Where in your life are you still trying to negotiate with God, rather than receiving His good news? Is there any area where you measure your worth by your performance instead of resting in Christ’s finished work?
🙏 Prayer
Thank You, Father, for the Gospel—Your good news to the world. I pray to rest each day in Christ’s accomplished work and to be grounded by Your Spirit in the unwavering truth of this salvation. Let my life be a continual response to this grace. Amen.
✅ Action Points
- See the Gospel for what it is: good news to celebrate, not good advice to follow.
- Refuse to measure your standing with God by your performance. Your status is based on Christ’s work, not your own.
- Reaffirm your trust in Christ’s finished work. Ground your confidence today—and every day—in what He has accomplished, not in what you must achieve.
