Christ Died, Was Buried, and Rose Again
Focus Scripture:
“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:3–4
Today’s Takeaway
- A clear, biblical definition of the Gospel centered on Christ’s work, not human effort.
- A deeper appreciation of the finished work of Christ—His death, burial, and resurrection.
- Unshakable confidence in a Gospel anchored in Scripture and verified by resurrection power.
📖 Opening Reflection
Many people speak about the Gospel, yet few can clearly define it. Over time, the word “gospel” has been stretched to cover personal testimonies, moral teachings, social causes, and even political ideas. While these things may have value, do not be deceived—they are not the Gospel itself.
The Bible does not leave us guessing. The Apostle Paul gives a precise, Spirit-inspired definition. The Gospel is not vague or abstract—it is a historical, Christ-centered message grounded in real events.
Paul makes it clear: he delivered only what he had received. This means the Gospel is a sacred trust—not a message we can reshape. It stands on three unchangeable truths:
- Christ died for our sins
- He was buried
- He rose again on the third day
These are not symbols or metaphors; they are facts that carry eternal significance. Christ’s death deals with our sins. His burial confirms His death was real, fulfills prophecy, embodies the darkness before resurrection’s light, and symbolizes our union with Him in that death. His resurrection declares victory over sin, death, and the grave.
Notice Apostle Paul’s repeated phrase: “according to the Scriptures.” The Gospel is not an afterthought in God’s plan. It is the fulfillment of God’s eternal purpose revealed throughout the Bible.
If any of these truths are removed, the Gospel collapses. A gospel without the cross has no forgiveness. A gospel without the resurrection has no power and no glory. But the true Gospel stands complete, victorious, and life-giving.
✝️ The Gospel in Summary
The Gospel is not about what Jesus taught alone; it is about what Jesus accomplished. Our faith rests not on human philosophy but on a risen Savior.
- Because Christ died, we are forgiven.
- Because He was buried, our old life is put away.
- Because He rose again, we walk in newness of life.
This is the Gospel—and it is enough.
⏸️ Pause and Reflect
How does the clarity of Paul’s definition protect you from confusing the Gospel with other “good messages”? In what area of your life do you need to rely more on what Christ has accomplished rather than what you must achieve?
🙏 Prayer
Thank You for the Gospel accomplished in Christ—His sin-bearing death and life-giving resurrection. Secure my heart in this biblical truth, and let my confidence grow ever deeper in the completeness of Your saving work. Amen.
