Bishop Mark Kariuki Biography
Bishop Mark Kariuki was born in Elburgon, Nakuru District, to Daniel and Monica Kariuki in a family of eight children, four boys and four girls.
His mother, who had known the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior in 1955, trained them in Christian living.She brought them up in the knowledge of God and faith that nothing is too difficult for God. Whenever they were faced by a difficult situation at home, she would call them and together to pray. She believed and trained them to believe that nothing is impossible with God. In 1957 his father too submitted his life to the lordship of Jesus Christ.
Bishop Mark recalls vividly the circumstances in which his father received Christ. A group of believers visited their home at night and witnessed to his father. He received the message of salvation, and gave his life to Christ. He then fetched his bottle of snuff, passed it on to him and told him to throw it into the pit latrine. Bishop Mark did it under duress because being young then, he feared going out into the dark of the night. However, he derives a lot of joy today in the knowledge that he participated in breaking the devil’s hold on his father’s life. His father went to be with the LORD in February, 1979.

Bishop Mark Kariuki Education
He attended Michinda Primary School in Elburgon and upon completion joined Koelel High School in Gilgil. He later joined Asumbi Teachers Training College for a two – year teaching program (1973 – 1975). It was while in College that he got born again. He was posted to a school in Mombasa where he met other brethren and they continued to serve together.

First Wife
It was during his stay and service to the Lord in Mombasa that he met Joyce. In April 1978, they were married in a colorful wedding ceremony held at the Kenya Polytechnic, Nairobi. They then moved to Nakuru in 1979 where they joined the Assemblies of God church under the late Pastor Harun Lihanda.
Bishop Mark is blessed with three children, Daniel, Nicky and Lynne and 2 grandchildren.Bishop Mark Kariuki renewed their vows with Joyce Kariuki at a glamorous wedding at Kasarani Gymnasium.The wedding was presided by Bishop William Tuimising of Deliverance Church while Bishop JB Masinde Deliverance Church Umoja was the best man.
The wedding was attended by about 6,000 people and as a typical Kenyan wedding,it lasted 7 hours.The couple later flew out to Tanzania for their honeymoon.Bishop Mark Kariuki is the presiding bishop and the general overseer of Deliverance Church, Kenya, comprising over 700 churches.
His first wife whom he married in 1978, passed on in November 2007, after being in ICU for two months.
Second Wife
He tied the knot in May 2013 to Joyce Wacera six years after losing his first wife.This was the greatest news in the Deliverance Church fraternity. The bishop and overseer of the Deliverance group of churches across the country wedded again in the last episode of Samantha’s Bridal Show dubbed ‘Bishop Mark Kariuki’s Grand wedding’.
Mark lost his first wife, Pastor Joyce Wangui six years ago, and finally received a prophesy from a friend in the UK that he would marry again in 2013! With a guest list hitting past the 5,000, he said ‘I do’ to Joyce Wacera, the head usher at one of the main churches for the last eight years.
The ceremony almost duplicated one of his popular crusades save for the healing sessions! Crowds cheered from the terraces armed with vuvuzelas and drums!The committee was led by Reverend Margaret Muchai, the national coordinator of the Deliverance Church decided to extend their invitations through the churches. They, however, printed 300 invites for VVIPs. The bishop had settled on The Moi Sports Centre Kasarani gymnasium long before, raising the question; its architecture is not exactly designed with the pomp and glamour that comes with a wedding?
The bishop may have had a seemingly easy time when deciding on the venue, but Rev Margaret was losing sleep on the décor. The bride had given her colour scheme; eggplant purple with baby yellow and a tinge of lime green (the groom’s favourite).The reverend recruited two flower and décor companies that would work hand in hand with the committee in transforming the terraces, the arena and the whole interior into a glittering and welcoming wedding venue.
The decorators came up with hundreds of ideas and finally settled on white backdrops, green and purple scallops to line up the edges of the arena, while the pillars would be garlanded in white and yellow roses. The tie-backs would alternate between yellow and purple. Security had to be top notch, and a fusion of the Kenya Police, an independent security company and the church’s internal security team was assigned the task. Then came the sensitive agenda, food — good memorable food.
The committee did an excellent job of appraising the tenders and finally settled on five caterers, who would each serve about a 1,200 guests on the same menu. The 300 VVIP guests would be served by Safari Park Hotel outside catering service. The last detail was the seating arrangement. It was agreed that while all VVIPs would use gate four that opens to the arena adjacent to the podium, other guests would take gate two to various doors into the terraces. Each guest would then take a door labeled to access the various seating positions within the terraces.
The bride wore a white elegant mermaid bustier gown encrusted with glass beadwork, and a bolero under her elbow length veil, while the groom matched in a charcoal black suit over a lilac shirt and purple stripped tie. The bishop was escorted down the aisle by his three children from his first marriage, while Bishop JB Masinde of Deliverance Church Umoja, was the best man. This was his second time to sign the groom’s matrimonial papers as he had been his key witness in his first marriage to the late Joyce. The same officiate who had presided over his first wedding; Bishop William Tumising took the couple through their vows. It was a day to remember!

Bishop Mark Kariuki is a preacher, televangelist, author and the senior pastor of Deliverance Church LCCI – the House of Bread, about 3000 member church located in Nairobi, Kenya. He is the General Overseer of Deliverance Church Kenya as well as the Chairman of Evangelical Alliance of Kenya (EAK). He is the moderator of the inter-religious Council of Kenya and a member of the African Council of Apostles.
