A Note By Bro. Gbile Akanni On The National Christian Art Workshop

“The Artist, God’s Masterpiece…”

For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined… Eph 2:10 Amp

In every generation God raises men and women as vessels through whom He speaks or acts to touch the lives of the several other teeming millions of men and women.

But the order is first; God makes the man and woman through whom He speaks, and such a man when made becomes “the message”. He or she becomes a light by which the rest of mankind can meaningfully advance. Thereafter; God erects a platform for His man to express what he has become in God’s hands- and the Arts is one of such platforms of expression!

In this Day, many men desire to be the Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo and the Picasso of our time. They seek the glory and limelight through the platform of the Fine Arts, without themselves being a “Masterpiece” in the hands of the almighty. Talented, skillful and sensational though they sometimes are, but without a message! Art therefore in contemporary times is suffering from a dearth of meaning; and is now gravitating to total absurdity and serving only vanity and other fleshly lust.

The cumulative result is that though our entire civilization is taking a nose dive on the path of decadence and annihilation, but God has no voice in the Arts to stem this tide of recklessness. There are no prepared men and women in the Art profession with deep moral convictions and gravity of life and works to be a prophet for Christ to this perverse generations.

This is the burden of this year’s NATIONAL CHRISTIAN ART WORKSHOP. God is advertising a vacancy for Christian Artists; who are willing first, to be made and polished by the Lord Jesus until they themselves by their lives and convictions become a “message” and thereafter, through their Arts become an “attenuation” for the recovery of this generation unto the path of moral sanity.

The workshop is opened to all students and teachers from Art Schools, Tertiary Institutions and Professional artists. The workshop will feature extended practical studio sessions in PAINTING, SCULPTURE, CERAMICS TEXTILE/ FASHION DESIGN, GRAPHICS and PHOTOGRAPHY, to be facilitated by resource persons who are proven veterans in the above fields. These shall also be interspersed by deep and analytical studies of the scripture to locate the Biblicality of our profession and calling as Artists.

The workshop shall dovetail into a full-scale exhibition of completed works titled “THE NEW CREATION” which shall be officially opened on Sunday 9th September at the same venue.

We therefore request you to come with your relevant tools, a complete Bible and writing materials.

Registration, Feeding and accommodation shall be free. Registration opens on June 10th – August 30th on this link: registration.livingseed.org

Expecting you.
Gbile Akanni
