I didn’t know anything about the Bible but I just literally began to cry out to Jesus
Remi Adeleke is a former military man and successful actor. But he hasn’t always had it easy. He has been through very dark times in his life and career, and only when he met Jesus did things start to turn around, as he reveals in his I AM SECOND testimony. “Ever since I was young I always wanted to control things. I’ve always felt like I needed to be the one to make things happen in my life. It’s hard for me to trust people, or to trust people outside of me.”
He recalls living in New York back in the early 2000’s and battling with the image of being a “hustler, thug and a player.” “Because I didn’t have a male rolemodel telling me that this is now what a man is. I started stealing from my mom, that progressed to running scams. That progressed to selling drugs.”
Then, his Dad died. That crushed him.
“One day I was laying in bed, a voice kept on pressing upon me that I needed to join the military.”
During his training, Adeleke went to cold weather survival training in Alaska. “While I would walk trough this wilderness I had time to reflect in the silence. I started thinking about how I treated my mom and people I love. I yearned for that paternal presence.”
“I started having suicidal thoughts. I was at the lowest point of my life.”
“I didn’t know anything about the Bible but I just literally began to cry out to Jesus.”
“Help me Jesus, help me.”
“I began to surround myself with Chrsitians who actually lived the Bible. All I wanted to do was to be with Him.”
Then, Adeleke felt the Lord tell him to get out of the military. “It’s time for you to move on,” he felt God say. So he left.
But then things got really hard.
“I didn’t know how to pay the bills. I was expecting to have all these opportunities for speaking engagements. And that did’t happen. The phones didn’y rind. I began to get really nervous – I only had about six months of savings. I had a wife and she’s pregnant with our first son. We were just scraping through.”
“We contemplated getting a divorce.”
“I got so frustrated. I got mad at God. “
“It was silence,” Adeleke says of God.
Then, the phone rang.
“A lady I worked with years prior cast me in a TV show. She said I’ve been trying to find you for a movie that is filming tomorrow. The Transformers.”
He began as an extra, then something amazing happened. “They said hey the director wants to upgrade you to a principal role. Are you available to film for the rest of production?”
“And I said, absolutely!”
“The director was Michael Bay, the same one who inspired me to be a SEAL.”
“You know when I look at my story from Le Bronx, to the military, to a marriage, being a father, now having a career in acting”
“If there is one word to sum it up: God.”
He’s been with me throughout my entire life. He’s seen the good, bad and ugly. He’s used it all to bring me to where I’m at today.”
Now, Adeleke just wants to follow Jesus every day of his life.
“I just want to allow God to do whatever it that is he wants to do in my life. If he wants to take me out of this acting career next week then so be it. If he wants me to get back into the military so be it. If he wants me to go into miinstry full time so be it.”
“I know that His plan is better than any plan than any plan I could ever have. And even though His plan may not make sense to me. Within his plans is everything I need. And everything that is not just good for me but good for my family as well.”
