DAY 22 — THE GOSPEL AND OUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST
Date: Thursday, January 22, 2026

Focus Scripture:
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

What You Will Walk Away With

  1. Understanding of your new, unshakeable identity in Christ as a “new creation.”
  2. Freedom from past labels, guilt, and the exhausting cycle of self-definition by performance.
  3. Confidence to live from who you are in Christ, not for what you must achieve to earn worth.

Devotional
Many believers struggle not because they lack effort, but because they lack identity clarity. When identity is misunderstood, behavior becomes exhausting. The Gospel does not modify the old you—it creates a new you.

In Christ, believers are new creations. This identity is not earned; it is bestowed. The old life defined by sin, condemnation, and separation has ended. Your past, your failures, and the world’s labels no longer have the final say. The Gospel declares a definitive break: “old things are passed away.”

Identity in Christ means adoption, righteousness, authority, and belonging. You are a beloved child of God (John 1:12), declared righteous in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21), seated with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6), and an integral part of His body (1 Corinthians 12:27). From this secure position flows authentic obedience, unshakable confidence, and deep peace. You do good works because you are a new creation, not to become one.

Jesus did not just save you from sin; He brought you into a new family. Your identity is secured in Him. Therefore, live from your position, not toward it. Stop striving to become who you already are in Christ.

Prayer
Father,
Thank You for making me a new creation in Christ Jesus.
Help me to fully grasp and walk in the reality of who You have declared me to be.
Silence the voice of condemnation and let the truth of my identity in You shape my every thought and step.
Amen.

Declaration

  • I declare that I am a new creation in Christ; the old is gone, the new has come.
  • I declare that I am a child of God, righteous, accepted, and seated with Christ.
  • I declare that I live from my secure identity in Him, not for the approval of the world.

Action Points

  1. Replace one old, negative label you’ve believed about yourself with a specific Scripture truth about your identity in Christ (e.g., “I am accepted” from Ephesians 1:6).
  2. Live from your identity today by making one decision based on who you are in Christ (e.g., choosing peace in a conflict because you are a child of God, not a defender of your ego).
  3. Refuse the first wave of condemnation you feel today by verbally rejecting it and stating, “I am in Christ; therefore, there is no condemnation for me” (Romans 8:1).

Memory Verse
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” — John 1:12
