FIFA is being urged to ban Christian players from making the sign of the cross after scoring a goal.

Many players do this to give glory to God and praise him for his goodness. The call to ban this show of affection has been raised bu Muslim Cleric Mohammed Alarefe, accordingto The Daily Mail.

Many people disagree with Mohammed, and others point out that players sometimes kneel down and kiss the floor in a show of devotion to the Islamic God. Alarefe wrote: “I’ve seen video clips of athletes, soccer players running, shooting and when they win they make the symbol of the cross on their chests and my question is if FIFA’s rules forbid this.”

One person responded, “I can’t lie. Mohamed Salah and others kneel to pray when they score a goal and no one punishes them. Leave the sport to those who deal with it.”
