North Korea – In this totalitarian state, the only thing that North Koreans are permitted to worship is the nation’s leader, Kim Jong-un. Bibles are banned and those found in possession of one face imprisonment, torture and even death – as do up to three generations of their family.
China – In China the Chinese communist party placed a ban on online Bible downloads, and even went on to empty bookshops off Bibles and even went to the extreme of altering the verses of the scriptures and replaced them with President Xi words.
Somalia – Christians residing in Somalia face constant persecution from radical Islamists and government officials. The prevalence of the Islamic extremist group, al-Shabaab means that believers often practise their faith in extreme secrecy and cannot own Bibles.

Morocco – It’s against the law to carry a Bible translated into Arabic in Morocco. Reports of overt Christian persecution are few but Christian children are not given a religious education.

Why is the Bible banned? Even children are allowed to read the Bible so why is it banned?
The Bible is a faith story. People new to the Christian faith and little children need time to grow up with the stories and texts they memorize. In countries where Christianity has been imported, it has caused problems with the government of those countries who view Christianity as a threat to their power and their ancient well preserved culture and tradition. When new converts eagerly memorize the stories, that is an awesome feat. Not many modern people have that ability. Memorizing the stories preserves them. Learning about God and God’s plan for HUMANITY from those stories takes years of living in community with other Christians and non-Christians. Jesus calls the disciples to be Salt and Light and invites the disciples to think and pray about what it means to be Salt and Light. Salt brings out the flavour of food. Salt also preserves food. Light helps food grow. Light guides one’s feet in the dark and the Light from the Noon Day Sun can blind one’s eyes and can tan or burn one’s skin. Many Christians are like the Samaritan Woman Jesus met at the well. The authorities have kept them from knowing who they worship and have not allowed them to have any social interaction with Jesus the Teacher of Israel and his disciples. So it is dangerous for them to be seen walking and talking with Jesus. And yet as the story in John goes…the rabble (the people the authorities insist have no knowledge of the Torah John 7:49) have faith in the Man Jesus called the Teacher of Israel even though the authorities have cursed them and veiled the Truth and the Spirit and prevented them from being baptized in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and have prevented them from learning how to climb Jacob’s Ladder–and give God glory.
The word of God stands for ever. Nothing that human leaders do can
stop the spreading of the gospel. Very soon the kingdoms of this world will become the kingdom of our Lord.
