MAY — DAY 2: The Holy Spirit Is God
Date: Saturday, May 2, 2026
Focus Scripture:
“But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.” — Acts 5:3–4 (KJV)
What You Will Walk Away With
- The Holy Spirit Is Fully God, Not a Lesser Being — You will discover that the Holy Spirit is not an angel, a created being, or an extension of God’s power—He is fully divine.
- To Relate to the Spirit Is to Relate to God Himself — You will understand that the same honor, reverence, and obedience due to the Father and the Son is due to the Spirit.
- Reverence for the Holy Spirit Is Essential in the Believer’s Life — You will learn that the presence of the Spirit in your life is the presence of God, awakening both confidence and reverence.
Devotional
Many believers understand that the Holy Spirit is a Person, but fewer grasp the fullness of who He is—God Himself. He is not an angel, not a created being, and not simply an extension of God’s power. He is not a force that flows from God like a current from a generator. He is fully divine, equally God with the Father and the Son.
In this passage from Acts, Peter confronts Ananias and makes a profound and unmistakable statement. Ananias had kept back part of the proceeds from the sale of his land, pretending to give the full amount. He thought he was lying only to Peter and the church.
But Peter sees deeper. He says, “Why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost?” Then, in the very next breath, he declares, “Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.”
This is not symbolic language. It is not metaphor or hyperbole. It is a clear revelation of the Spirit’s identity. To lie to the Holy Spirit is to lie to God because the Holy Spirit is God.
This truth is foundational. It shapes how you relate to Him. If the Holy Spirit is merely a force, you might try to use Him. If He is merely an angel, you might respect Him but not worship Him. But if He is God, then He deserves the same honor, reverence, and obedience as the Father and the Son.
The early church understood this. They did not just speak about the Spirit as an abstract power; they worshipped Him, prayed to Him, and submitted to His leadership. They recognized that when the Spirit spoke, God was speaking. When the Spirit led, God was leading.
The presence of the Holy Spirit in your life is therefore not a small thing. It is the presence of God. Your body is not just a container for a divine influence; it is a temple where God Himself dwells.
This should awaken both confidence and reverence in your heart. Confidence, because God is with you. The One who spoke the universe into existence, who parted the Red Sea, who raised Jesus from the dead—that God lives in you. You are never alone, never powerless, never without divine resources.
Reverence, because God is in you. You cannot treat His presence casually. You cannot ignore His leading. You cannot grieve Him without consequence. The same God before whom angels veil their faces dwells within your heart. That should produce holy awe.
Understanding the deity of the Holy Spirit also guards against casual or careless attitudes. You cannot ignore Him, resist Him, or grieve Him without consequence. Ananias and Sapphira learned this the hard way. Their sin was not just lying; it was lying to God Himself.
Your relationship with the Spirit must be intentional and sincere. He is not a distant force you can manipulate or ignore. He is a divine Person who deserves your attention, your obedience, and your love.
At the same time, this truth brings great assurance. The One who leads you, teaches you, and strengthens you is not limited—He is God. His wisdom is perfect, so His guidance can be trusted. His power is unlimited, so His strength is sufficient for any trial. His presence is constant, so you are never abandoned.
When you yield to the Holy Spirit, you are yielding to God. When you listen to His leading, you are responding to God. When you walk in obedience, you are aligning with God’s will.
This changes how you live. You become more aware of His presence throughout your day. You become more sensitive to His promptings. You become more surrendered to His leading. You recognize that your life is not your own—you are a dwelling place of God.
Christ-Centered Focus
Ultimately, the Holy Spirit glorifies Christ and reveals God to you. Jesus said of the Spirit, “He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you” (John 16:14). The Spirit does not draw attention to Himself; He shines the spotlight on the Son.
As you grow in your understanding of who the Spirit is, your relationship with God becomes deeper and more real. You begin to see that the Trinity is not a distant doctrine but a present reality. The Father plans, the Son accomplishes, and the Spirit applies—all working together for your salvation and sanctification.
The Holy Spirit is not just from God—He is God.
Conclusion
Today, let the truth of the Spirit’s deity transform your walk. Do not treat Him as a casual afterthought or a distant force. Honor Him as God. Listen to Him as God. Obey Him as God. Rejoice that God Himself dwells within you.
And let that truth produce both confidence and reverence—confidence to face any challenge, and reverence to live a life worthy of His presence.
Prayer
Lord, open my eyes to truly understand who the Holy Spirit is. Help me to honor Him as God and to walk in reverence and obedience. Teach me to be sensitive to His presence and leading. Let my life reflect a deep respect for Your Spirit. I rejoice that You dwell in me, and I tremble with holy awe.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
