MAY — DAY 3: The Spirit in the Trinity (The Spirit of the Father and the Son)

Date: Sunday, May 3, 2026

Focus Scripture:
“But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.” — John 15:26 (KJV)

What You Will Walk Away With

  1. The Holy Spirit Is Distinct Yet Fully United with the Father and the Son — You will discover that the Spirit is not separate from God’s nature nor independent of the Father and Son, but works in perfect harmony with Them.
  2. The Spirit Reveals and Glorifies Jesus Christ — You will understand that the Spirit’s primary mission is to make Christ known, not to draw attention to Himself.
  3. Understanding the Trinity Deepens Your Relationship with God — You will learn that through the Spirit, you are brought into the divine fellowship of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Devotional

The Christian faith is rooted in the revelation of one God who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is the mystery of the Trinity—three Persons, one God. The Holy Spirit is not separate from God’s nature, nor is He independent of the Father and the Son. He is fully God, yet distinct in His role and function.

In John 15:26, Jesus gives us a window into this divine relationship. He describes the Spirit as the One “whom I will send unto you from the Father,” who “proceedeth from the Father,” and who “shall testify of me.”

Notice the relationships: The Spirit proceeds from the Father. The Spirit is sent by the Son. And the Spirit testifies of the Son. In this single statement, we see the harmony and unity within the Trinity. The Spirit does not act independently—He works in perfect agreement with the Father and reveals the Son.

This means that the Holy Spirit’s primary mission is to make Christ known. He does not draw attention to Himself, but directs your heart to Jesus. Every genuine work of the Spirit leads to a deeper understanding, love, and obedience to Christ.

The Spirit is like a spotlight. A spotlight does not shine on itself; it shines on another. It illuminates what would otherwise remain unseen. So the Spirit shines on Christ, making His beauty, His work, and His glory visible to your heart.

Understanding this protects you from error. Any spiritual experience or teaching that does not exalt Christ is not the work of the Holy Spirit. If an experience makes you more focused on the experience itself rather than on Jesus, it is suspect. If a teaching draws attention to a human leader or to sensational phenomena rather than to Christ, it is not from the Spirit. His role is clear—He testifies of Jesus.

The Trinity also reveals the relational nature of God. God is not distant or impersonal. Within Himself, there is perfect fellowship, unity, and love. The Father loves the Son. The Son delights in the Father. The Spirit proceeds from Their love.

When the Holy Spirit comes into your life, you are brought into that divine relationship. You are not just given power; you are given a relationship with the living God. Through the Spirit, you cry, “Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15). Through the Spirit, you are united with the Son. This is not a theoretical concept—it is a living reality.

As you grow in your relationship with the Holy Spirit, your understanding of Christ deepens. Scriptures become clearer because the Spirit is the Author of Scripture. Your love for Jesus increases because the Spirit pours God’s love into your heart. Your obedience becomes more intentional because the Spirit empowers you to do what you cannot do alone.

This is the Spirit at work.

The Spirit also ensures that your faith remains Christ-centered. He corrects you when you drift. He guides you into truth. He aligns your heart with the will of God. He keeps your focus where it belongs—on Jesus.

Christ-Centered Focus

Ultimately, the Holy Spirit does not replace Christ—He reveals Him. Jesus said, “He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you” (John 16:14). The Spirit takes what belongs to Jesus and makes it real to you.

He illuminates the Scriptures so you see Christ on every page. He opens your eyes to the beauty of the Gospel. He makes the presence of Jesus tangible in your daily life. He brings the reality of Christ into your everyday experience.

To know the Spirit is to be drawn into deeper fellowship with the Father and the Son. He is the bond of love that unites the Trinity, and He draws you into that same love.

Conclusion

Today, rejoice in the fellowship of the Trinity. The Father planned your salvation. The Son accomplished it. The Spirit applies it. And through the Spirit, you are brought into relationship with all three.

Let the Spirit do His work in you: revealing Christ, deepening your love, and drawing you into the very life of God.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, help me to understand Your role in revealing Christ. Draw me deeper into fellowship with the Father and the Son. Keep my life centered on Jesus and aligned with truth. Teach me to walk in harmony with Your leading. Thank You for bringing me into the divine fellowship of the Trinity.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

  • I declare that I am connected to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • I declare that the Spirit reveals Christ to me daily.
  • I declare that my life is Christ-centered.

Action Points

  1. Spend time reflecting on the work of Christ and ask the Spirit to reveal Him more deeply. Take a passage of Scripture and ask, “Lord, show me Jesus here.”
  2. Evaluate your spiritual experiences—ensure they point to Jesus. Ask: “Does this make me love Christ more? Does this focus my heart on Him?”
  3. Cultivate awareness of God’s presence in your daily life. Throughout the day, pause and say, “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—You are with me.”
