Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria has elected a new General Overseer to take over from the outgoing General Overseer, Rev. Felix Meduoye, who served the church for eight years.
He is Rev. Sam Aboyeji, who served as the church’s Midwest regional Coordinator.
The election which held on Sunday July 21, at the church’s Ajebo Lagos-Ibadan Campground, saw Rev. Aboyeji, score 1, 670 votes to beat his opponent Rev. Isaac Komolafe, the church’s Overseer of the Northern region, who scored 672 votes. The process to elect a new General Overseer that will steer the church’s affairs for another eight years started since April this year.
The church’s National Secretary, Rev. Ikechukwu Ugbaja in a statement said: “Rev. Samuel Abayomi Aboyeji has been elected the new General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria. He will become the fifth General Overseer of the movement, which started in Nigeria in 1955 at his official inauguration in November at the church’s national convention.”He said the new General Overseer would build on the achievements of the movement’s past leaders, especially Rev. Felix Meduoye.
The statement added: “He has been the Senior Pastor of the Church Olu of Warri’s Palace since 2001 and the Warri District Overseer/Mid-West Region Coordinator since 2006 and 2011, where he was rated the best District Overseer of the church for three consecutive years.“He is also a member of the Board of both the Home and Foreign Missions and the National Executive Council of the church. He joined the Foursquare Church in 1988 and served the movement in various leadership capacities before he was ordained a minister of the church in 2001…”
Aboyeji takes over from Rev. Felix Meduoye, who has attained the statutory retirement age of 70.
