JULY — DAY 28: A Growing Christian Life

“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.”

What You Will Walk Away With:

Devotional:
A growing Christian life is not defined by religious activity but by an increasing relationship with Christ. Paul’s prayer for the believers in Colossae reveals God’s desire for every Christian—to grow in the knowledge of His will, walk in a manner that pleases Him, bear fruit, and continually increase in the knowledge of God.
Notice that growth begins with knowing God. The Christian life is not about accumulating facts but about deepening fellowship with Christ. The more believers know Him, the more they understand His heart, trust His promises, and reflect His character.
The Holy Spirit gives believers spiritual wisdom and understanding. He opens the Scriptures, reveals the beauty of Christ, and enables believers to apply God’s truth in everyday life. Spiritual growth is therefore both relational and practical.
As believers grow in knowing Christ, their daily walk begins to change. Their decisions, attitudes, conversations, and priorities increasingly reflect the life of Jesus. Obedience becomes the natural expression of a heart that delights in God.
Paul also connects growth with fruitfulness. A healthy believer naturally produces works that glorify God and bless others. These works do not earn God’s acceptance; they flow from a life already rooted in Christ.
The Christian life is one of continual increase. There is always more to discover about God’s grace, His love, His wisdom, and His purposes. No believer ever reaches a point where growth is no longer needed.
This growth is sustained by abiding in Christ. Just as branches receive life from the vine, believers receive strength, wisdom, and fruitfulness through continual fellowship with Jesus. Apart from Him, lasting growth is impossible.
Christ-Centered Focus:
God’s desire is that every area of life reflects Christ. Whether at home, at work, in ministry, or in relationships, the believer increasingly displays the character of Jesus through the work of the Holy Spirit. As believers continue walking with Christ, they become a testimony of God’s transforming grace. Others see not merely religious activity but the life of Jesus being expressed through them.
Conclusion:
Ultimately, a growing Christian life is a life continually filled with Christ, led by the Holy Spirit, and lived for the glory of God. The more we know Christ, the more our lives reflect Him. Keep growing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to know Christ more deeply each day. Fill me with wisdom through the Holy Spirit so that my life bears fruit and brings glory to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
