‘I don’t think I’d have done it, killed myself, but I can’t say for sure. Now that I’ve gone through that terrible moment, I can certainly understand the possibilities even for someone solid like me if the pain gets bad enough.’
Pop singer Dolly Parton has revealed that she was very close to suicide when the Lord intervened and saved her life in the most profound way, reports The Daily Mail.
The Country star had what she describes as an “affair of the heart” whilst her and her husband weregoing through some tough times in the 1980’s. Parton recalls one night when she sat in her bedroom and contemplated killing herself with a gun she kept to protect herself from burglars.
Then, God intervened in an incredibly simple yet profound way. “I looked at it a long time… Then, just as I picked it up, just to hold it and look at it for a moment, out little dog, Popeye, came running up the stairs,” Parton said. “The tap-tap of his paws jolted me back to reality I suddenly froze. I put the gun down,” she added.
Parton believes that the Lord used her pet to send her a message. “I kinda believe Popeye was a spiritual messenger from God,” said the singer. “I don’t think I’d have done it, killed myself, but I can’t say for sure. Now that I’ve gone through that terrible moment, I can certainly understand the possibilities even for someone solid like me if the pain gets bad enough.”
The “Queen of Country” has often spoken openly about her faith. “You have to believe in something bigger than yourself,” she said previously.
“We grew up believing that through God all things are possible. I think I believed that so much that I made it happen.”
