JULY — DAY 11: The Holy Spirit and Growth
Date: July 11, 2026
Focus Scripture:
“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
— 2 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV)
What You Will Walk Away With:
- Divine transformation — The Holy Spirit is the One who transforms believers
- Beholding Christ — Spiritual growth happens as believers behold Christ
- Spirit-produced maturity — Christlikeness is produced by the Spirit, not by self-effort
Devotional:
The Christian life is a supernatural work of God. While believers are called to cooperate with Him, true spiritual transformation is accomplished by the Holy Spirit. Paul reminds us that as we behold the glory of the Lord, we are “changed into the same image… by the Spirit of the Lord.”
This reveals an important truth: spiritual growth is not self-improvement—it is Spirit-led transformation. The Holy Spirit does not merely modify behavior; He forms the life and character of Christ within every believer.
Notice that transformation begins by beholding Christ. The more believers fix their hearts on Jesus through Scripture, prayer, worship, and fellowship with Him, the more the Holy Spirit changes them into His likeness. Our focus is not on ourselves but on Christ.
This change is progressive. Paul describes it as moving “from glory to glory.” Spiritual maturity is not instantaneous but a continual journey. Each step of obedience, every fresh revelation of Christ, and every work of the Spirit brings believers into greater conformity with Jesus.
The Holy Spirit also works from the inside out. He renews the mind, reshapes desires, strengthens faith, and produces His fruit in the believer’s life. Lasting transformation begins in the heart before it is seen in outward actions.
Believers therefore do not need to live under the pressure of trying to change themselves. Instead, they are called to surrender daily to the Holy Spirit, trusting Him to accomplish what only God can do.
This does not eliminate personal responsibility. Believers intentionally pursue Christ through His Word, prayer, obedience, and fellowship. Yet even these spiritual disciplines become effective because the Holy Spirit works through them.
Christ-Centered Focus:
As the Spirit transforms believers, they become more loving, humble, patient, forgiving, joyful, and faithful. These qualities are not signs of human achievement but evidence of Christ’s life being expressed through them. The Holy Spirit never draws attention to Himself. His ministry is always to reveal Christ, glorify Christ, and conform believers to the image of Christ.
Conclusion:
Ultimately, spiritual growth is the beautiful work of the Holy Spirit revealing Jesus more clearly through the lives of God’s people. The more we behold Christ, the more the Holy Spirit transforms us into His likeness. Yield to His work today.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the Holy Spirit who lives within me. Help me to keep my eyes on Christ and to yield daily to the Spirit’s transforming work. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
