There is huge outcry in Indonesia following the imprisonment of Jakarta’s governor, Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama. Ahok, a Christian, was convicted of blasphemy and sentenced to two years in prison for insulting the Islamic faith. This is the latest in a string of violence and harsh sentences handed down for being a believer.
A couple of months ago, a well-known pastor was kidnapped in broad daylight by a group of men in black SUV’s. Koh, 62, was abducted on Feb 13 from a street in Kelana Jaya, just outside of the capital Kuala Lumpur, while on his way to a friend’s house.
In this latest case, the Jakarta Post is reporting that about 1,000 places are planning candlelight vigils in support of Ahok in various parts of the country and abroad, according to Christian Headlines.
