Biography Of Preye Omayuku

Preye Omayuku is a Nigerian gospel musician who can best be described as a lady with music in her genes.

Born in Zaria, Nigeria, Preye hails from a family of very talented singers, hence, it was not much of a surprise when she began to show signs that music would play a big role in the path that God had ordained for her here on earth.

Her father was an officer in the Nigerian Military and was compelled to move around the country quite a bit as a result of the nature of his job.

After moving to the city of Port Harcourt in the early nineties, she began to play an active role in the gospel music circuit, lending her promising talent to support then up and coming gospel music acts, such as Sinach, among others as a backup vocalist in different gospel concerts that took place in Port Harcourt.

Her music style can be described as gospel infused with a blend of soul, R&B, and jazz. This does not mean that she does not occasionally venture into afro beats, reggae and highlife terrain, as long as the message in the song remains strong and Christ oriented.

The Port Harcourt based gospel music vocalist, Preye Omayuku, was reported dead on Thursday, 5th March 2020, after a brief illness.

A chance meeting with Pastors Charles Omofomah (of blessed memory) and Nkechi Ene of Royal Evangel Church (presently known as The Carpenter’s Church) led to her developing an understanding of the need for dedicated service in a local church, so she not only became a member of the church, but also became a member of the church choir – The New Wine Choir, a 100 voice strong choir which she currently oversees.

Preye has had the distinct privilege of touring the country with both her pastors as they ministered to thousands all over the country, providing her with a well-balanced understanding of ministry and the knowledge that it is critical to remain firmly rooted and grounded in your faith irrespective of how many platforms you have had the opportunity to minister on and how many people God has blessed you to influence by reason of the gift that he has graciously put on you.

She also became a guest music minister on the inspirational television program, Freshdew, which features Pastor Nkechi Ene sharing the word of God in what was then a revolutionary fashion. Freshdew provided Preye with a lot of visibility and experience as the format of the program demanded that she shoot music videos that would be aired prior to the delivery of the word by the pastor.

In 2013, she released a “double-single” as a precursor to releasing her debut album. The two tracks that were released not only showcased her abilities as a versatile vocalist, but also showed an unmistakable anointing that could only have from God. Her debut album, aptly titled “Promise Keeper” due to the fact that it was the fulfillment of a vision that God had given her even though she had no clue how it would come to pass, was released into the market in 2014 to rave reviews and has literally been an instrument for the generation of testimonies within the body of Christ, with people testifying that their lives were transformed as they listened to the songs on the album.
