JULY — DAY 23: Love as Evidence of Growth

Devotional:
One of the strongest evidences of spiritual maturity is love. While knowledge, gifts, and service all have their place, Scripture consistently teaches that love is the distinguishing mark of a life that is growing in Christ.
Paul prayed that believers would “increase and abound in love.” This reminds us that love is not static. As believers continue abiding in Christ, their capacity to love God and others continues to grow.
This love is not merely human affection or natural kindness. It is the love of Christ produced by the Holy Spirit. Left to ourselves, our love is often limited by emotions, personal preferences, or circumstances. But God’s love enables believers to love even when it is difficult.
Jesus perfectly demonstrated this love. He loved the undeserving, showed compassion to the broken, forgave those who wronged Him, and gave Himself for the salvation of humanity. His love became the pattern for every believer.
As believers remain connected to Christ, His love begins to shape every relationship. Pride gives way to humility, bitterness to forgiveness, impatience to kindness, and selfishness to sacrificial care for others. The character of Christ becomes increasingly visible through genuine love.
Love also preserves the unity of the Body of Christ. Differences in personality, background, or opinion need not divide believers when Christ’s love governs their hearts. The Holy Spirit binds God’s people together as they walk in humility and grace.
Growing in love does not mean compromising truth. Jesus was full of both grace and truth. Mature believers learn to speak the truth with gentleness, correct with compassion, and serve with humility, always seeking the good of others.
Christ-Centered Focus:
Love extends beyond the Church as well. God calls believers to reflect Christ’s love to neighbors, coworkers, strangers, and even those who oppose them. Through this love, the world catches a glimpse of Christ Himself. The more believers know Christ, the more they love like Christ. Spiritual maturity is therefore measured less by how much we know and more by how much the love of Jesus is evident in our lives.
Conclusion:
Ultimately, a growing believer is a loving believer. When Christ’s love fills the heart, it naturally flows into every relationship. Grow in love today.
Prayer:
Father, fill my heart with the love of Christ. By the Holy Spirit, help me to love others as You have loved me, so that my life may reflect Jesus every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
