What You Will Walk Away With:

Devotional:

Living a busy life is not the same as living a fruitful life. Many believers sincerely desire to serve God but gradually become so occupied with responsibilities that they neglect the One they are serving. Jesus reminds us that while many things demand our attention, only one thing is truly necessary.

In the home of Martha and Mary, both women loved Jesus. Martha expressed her love through service, while Mary chose to sit at His feet and listen to His words. Jesus did not rebuke Martha for serving; He lovingly corrected her because her service had become a source of anxiety and distraction from His presence.

This account teaches that spiritual growth begins with fellowship before activity. The Christian life is first about being with Christ before doing for Christ. Ministry without communion eventually becomes exhausting, but service flowing from intimacy with Christ becomes joyful and fruitful.

The enemy often uses distractions, not only sinful ones but even good and necessary things, to pull believers away from abiding in Christ. Work, ministry, responsibilities, and daily pressures can quietly replace time spent with the Lord if believers are not intentional.

Jesus calls believers to choose “the good part”—a life that remains centered on Him. As they spend time in His presence through prayer, Scripture, worship, and quiet fellowship, the Holy Spirit renews their strength, aligns their hearts, and deepens their relationship with Christ.

This does not mean believers neglect their responsibilities. Rather, fellowship with Christ becomes the foundation from which every responsibility is carried out. Serving Christ is healthiest when it flows from knowing Christ.

Christ-Centered Focus:

Spiritual busyness can also create the illusion of maturity. A believer may be active in many good works yet neglect personal communion with the Lord. God desires transformed hearts before impressive schedules. Jesus never invites His followers into restless striving. He calls them to abide in Him. As believers remain connected to Christ, they receive wisdom for their priorities, peace in their responsibilities, and strength for faithful service.

Conclusion:

The Holy Spirit continually draws believers back to the simplicity of loving Christ above all else. When Jesus remains the center, every other area of life finds its proper place. Ultimately, spiritual growth is not measured by how busy we are for God but by how deeply we walk with Christ. The greatest priority of every believer is to remain at the feet of Jesus.

Prayer:

Father, keep my heart centered on Christ. Help me not to become distracted by busyness but to abide in Jesus and serve from a place of fellowship with Him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
